About Me
Designer · Maker · Cabinetmaker
From an early age I knew I wanted a practical career, though I was not entirely sure what form it would take. After four years in catering, I enrolled on a two-year Furniture Design and Making course at Rycotewood College in Oxfordshire.
I took to woodworking immediately. It combined the precision I enjoy with the satisfaction of creating something tangible, and suited both my perfectionist nature and my desire to make.
I was fortunate to find a workshop in rural South Oxfordshire, where I established David Parton Furniture in 1995.

Practical Beginnings
An early interest in practical work, followed by four years working in the catering business.
Rycotewood College
Two years studying Furniture Design and Making in Oxfordshire, where woodworking became the clear direction.
Established 1995
David Parton Furniture established from a workshop in rural South Oxfordshire.
Today
Bespoke furniture, fitted cabinetry, kitchens and individual commissions designed and made for private clients.
One Maker
Designed and made by the same person.
I work directly with my clients throughout a commission. The person discussing the initial idea with you is also the person developing the drawings, resolving the details and making the finished piece.
That continuity means decisions made during the early stages of the project remain connected to what eventually happens at the workbench and, where required, during fitting and installation.

Beyond the Workshop
At home in Reading, Berkshire.
Outside the workshop, I live with my wife Nicki and we have two sons.
When I'm not making furniture, I can often be found running around the lanes in the South Oxfordshire countryside.
In Clients’ Words
“Whatever I need, be it a small vanity unit, a kitchen or a full blown library – his is the number I reach for – there is nothing he cannot do!”
“David has produced several bespoke pieces of furniture for us. He has an exceptional eye for detail and his work is of great quality.”
